After logging in to 3D Wayfinder you’ll see the following menu in top of the page:




If you have no project created yet, then only “BILLING” section is active. To create a new project, then goto projects page by clicking on 3D Wayfinder logo or select “Create new project” from projects menu.


User profile page, user management and logout button open when clicking on person contour button.




The screen button beside it is for opening active project, from drop-down menu you can select the template which to use for opening project.


Project menu shows active project. When clicking on project menu, the list of all projects appears, also there is link for creating new project and opening all projects.




All pages in 3D Wayfinder have also help-texts:


If you click on “Don’t show these help texts anymore” you will not see these help texts anymore. To turn them on again, go to to “Profile” page and select the checkbox “Info texts”.



Each building with its locations, floor plans and settings is a separate project.

When selecting from the top right projects menu “All projects” you will get to your projects list. Every project has a name and a unique ID. This ID is used to open the project. A list of all projects with the URLs to an example view is listed on the projects page.



You can select a project by clicking “Select” button in the same row. For selecting another project click on the Select button. Selected project’s name will appear on the top right menu.

You can also use search over the projects list. When typing in the search input, the projects list will be filtered by the string you typed. If you’ll have a long list of projects, this will make project selection faster.


Creating a new project

In the projects page and click on the + button to create a new project.


This will open a new form where you have to insert the projects name.


Insert a project title and if you need demo data, then select the checkbox. Button “Create new” creates the project and selects it also. If you like to load demo data, select also checkbox on the form.


If you have reached the projects limit, you’ll get a error message “Cannot create new project: maximum number of projects reached”. New project was not created and you have to change your plan, to allow new project creation.


Project overview

When you click on 3D Wayfinder logo project’s overview page opens. In this page you can change project/building name and set up address, location, logo etc.



In this overview page, there are also main figures from statistics. If you have statistics add-on ordered you can go to statistics section by clicking on these figures. If there are no clicks or visits, you’ll see “NaN”.

At the bottom of the page you see your active billing plan and limitations for this plan.


To add a floor, go to “FLOOR PLANS” and then select Floors. To upload a new floor click on + button. Then drag and drop 3D floor plan files or select files from the folder. Set the “Level name” and click “Upload”. Level names will be used in 3D Wayfinder on buttons for changing floors.



Supported file formats are: .dae, .lwo and .3ds. Read more from 3D floor plan modelling guidelines.


All added floors are shown in the floors table. Here you can change the order of floors by clicking on the arrow buttons to move floors up and down in the order. “Shown in menu” column shows weather the floor is shown in floors menu or not.




Translate buttons opens translation dialog, where it is possible to insert floor names or numbers in different languages. To add more languages, you need to go to “SETUP” and choose languages.


“Replace” replaces the floor 3D file, download downloads the file and clicking trash-bin icon deletes the floor.


2D floor plans

3D Wayfinder also enables to add common image files for floor-plans. When you don’t need 3D effects and the ceilings/floors don’t have to be clickable, you can upload image of the floor plan to 3D Wayfinder.


Materials and textures

3D model files don’t include textures (images inside 3D model). To upload images, go to Materials page under MEDIA in top menu.

Here you can upload textures by dragging files on the upload area or clicking “… select file from…”.


Supported file formats are JPEG and PNG.

You can see the files by clicking on the number of textures uploaded on the left:



At the same page you can also manage materials and add shaders to materials.



List of materials are generated automatically when uploading floor 3D model.

Currently we are supporting following shaders for materials:



If you need for example transparent glass material, change the “Shader type” to “Transparent”. The transparency is determined also by the 2 letters in the color (FF is not transpaent and 00 is fully transparent).

Under “Textures” column you will see the number of textures added to this material. By clicking the number you can see the textures and remove them.




After making change for material you need to press also “Save” button at the same row.
To delete texture file, click on the “X” top right on the texture thumbnail.

Locations and groups


Locations can be shops, rooms and other objects on the floor plan. With groups you can group them for better overview. For example you could group all clothing stores to highlight all clothing stores on map.


Managing locations

When selecting from the top menu “FLOOR PLANS” and then “Locations”, you’ll get the list of all locations entered into your project. Here it is possible to add, change and delete locations.



There are following fields for each location:


To quickly find the location you would like to edit, you can also use table filtering, by entering text in the search field (right in top of the table). The list of locations is then being filtered based on their names and descriptions.

By clicking “Edit” you can edit location in opened window:



Here you can also add images to locations by clicking “Upload icon” or “Upload background”.

You can select image from the gallery or upload new image:




Selected image appears instead of upload area. With the little trash-can icon it is possible to remove the image.



When saving location, uploaded icon images are visible also in location list.


To change the groups the location belongs to click on the number in “Groups” column. Group selection dialog appears:



First you must have entered the groups to 3D Wayfinder (See Managing groups section).

One location can belong to many groups and you can also remove connected groups from location.

The same way you can add and remove tags for the location:



Don’t forget to save the row after you have made changes in groups or tags.


Adding new location

To add a new location, click on the + button. This will open separate window, which is similar with location edit window.



After entering location name, description and images press “Save”. This will save the location and added location will appear in location list.



Managing groups

You can add new group by clicking + mark on top of groups page. Separate window will open, where you can enter group’s name and background color. For each group you can also upload image or icon, by clicking “Upload logo”.




When clicking “Save”, the group will be saved and will appear in groups page.




Groups have 2 choices for showing 3D Wayfinder menu:

In list view you can edit groups by clicking “Edit” button in the same row. You can also delete group, remember this doesn’t delete locations connected with this group.

Floor plan editor


You can open 3D floor plan editor by clicking “EDITOR” from top menu. Editor loads all the 3D floor plans and with editor you can map locations to the maps. For better performance editor doesn’t show the effects (skybox, anti-aliasing etc.). Loading editor might take some time, you’ll see the loading text at the bottom of editor window:



After editor has loaded you’ll see the buttons for basic functionality and floor buttons below the editor window:

Adding new node

Node is a point on the map. Nodes can be used to mark the locations (kiosks, shops, toilets, stairs, sensors etc.) to the map, create navigation paths and connect parts of the 3D model (ceiling, stairs) with locations.

To add a new node select “Nodes” tab from the top menu in editor window. Then make double-click with left button on the map, where you would like to add the node.

You’ll see a new node appear in the place you clicked:



The node will be automatically selected after it has been created.


Managing nodes

When you select node, you’ll see green borders appear around that node:



Also additional menu appears on top of the editor. In this menu you can select node’s type. Also you’ll see nodes ID and you can lock node height. By selecting “Lock node height” additional scroll-bar appears:



In this scrollbar you can raise or lower the surface where the node is locked. Surface is marked blue. This gives you possibility to change node height from the floor. For example you may need this for elevators, otherwise you cannot add the node to same height with the floor and the node will drop to the bottom of elevator shaft.


To move the node, you’ll have to hold down Control key (Ctrl). When you click somewhere now by holding down Ctrl, the node will be moved to the place you clicked.


To delete the node you have to press Delete key, node has to be still selected.


To add the location to the node, make double-click on the node. Window with available locations will open:



It is possible to add many locations to the node. This means that there are many locations in this point in map, where the node is.

To add a location, click on the location in “Available POIs” column. Added location will appear on left column “Assigned POIs”. To remove the location, double-click on the left column.

After making changes press “Save”.


When node is selected you’ll have also following buttons in top of the editor window:



Link mesh to POI activates mesh (part of 3D model) selection. This means you can connect any part of 3D with this node. Selected mesh will turn to yellow and by clicking “Link mesh” the connection will be saved.




Linking meshes will give you 2 functionalities:

To connect the mesh to the node, this node must have connected location added first.


If you are using wayfinding kiosks then you would like to load 3D Wayfinder with the specified view to the map, depending where the kiosk is in building. “Set kiosk view” button sets the kiosk view to the node the way you are looking the map in your editor and “Show kiosk view” show the view.


Finding the location on the map


For finding the location on the map you can use search-box in top of the editor:

When typing you’ll see all the locations that match the text you entered and you’ll see also node ID-s.

When selecting location from the drop-down that appears, the node that is connected to this location will be activated on the map.


Creating paths for wayfinding


To find the shortest path from one location to another you need to connect the 2 location with path. To create the path the way people are walking in the building you’ll need to create also navigation nodes between the 2 locations.

For creating paths click on the “Paths” tab in top of the editor window.


Connecting nodes with path

You can connect 2 nodes by selecting nodes with holding down “Ctrl” button.



Both nodes will be selected and if you press now “Create edge” button, these nodes will be connected. To remove the path between 2 nodes select them and then press “Delete edge” button.

For deselecting nodes you can use “Clear selection” button.

For this don’t open the “Path tool”, just open the “Paths” tab in editor.

To connect node to other nodes near it you can use button “Generate local edges”. The node has to be selected first. This will connect the node with other nodes that are near it. To delete the paths click “Delete local edges”. This will remove the edges between selected node and the nodes near to the selected one.



Path tool

Click the “Path tool” button on the top of the editor window.

Now you can select the first node, from where you would like to start creating path. Now if you double-click somewhere on the map a new node will be added and connected with the previously selected node. Nodes will be connected with the purple line:



This means that in real life users can move from one node the other. So pay attention not to connect directly nodes that are not directly visible (there are objects or walls between them).

For faster path creating you can also add “leaf node”. This can be done with right double click. Leaf node means you are adding navigation node, but the systems don’t automatically select this. With leaf nodes you can create entrances in a hallway to the rooms beside the hallway faster.

When you are done with adding paths, click “Done” or press “Esc” button. This will save the paths and exit from the path tool. You can also save the paths during the path creation by pressing “Save paths”. If something went wrong you can restore the paths with “Restore paths” button. This will open the last saved state.

“Clear all paths” clears all paths. Do it only when you would like to remove all paths.

Project settings


There are many settings for showing 3D floor plans and how the 3D maps can be used for wayfinding or other application.

To view and change the settings, click on the “SETUP” menu in top of the 3D Wayfinder. Setttings page is opened. You’ll also see following sub-menus there:

All the settings are grouped by categories. Categories menu is on the left of the page:



When you change the setting, don’t forget to save.

Add Ons

Offline snapshots

Offline snapshots enables to save 3D Wayfinder projects for offline use. The addon creates static files of all the API calls and modifies the template file for local use. To use these generated files You have to click on the New Snapshot button and wait few moments while the system generates a zip file for download. Unzip this file.

All created snapshots will be saved in your 3D Wayfinder account. For each snapshot you can add a note and you can also delete the snapshot.


Deploying snapshot

You need a local web server to use these files because modern browsers do not allow requests to local files.

Place the unzipped folder to a web server folder or if You use some light weight server (eg NGINX) You have to configure also the server config files. Here is a tutorial for installing Apache Web Server on Windows PC. Apache Server will not start if some other software is already using port 80, so you can set the Apache to port 8080. For Apache unzip the snapshot files to “htdocs” folder.

In this unzipped folder You can find the following 3 folders:

To start your wayfinder snapshot, open browser http://localhost/projects/PROJECT-ID/ or http://localhost:8080/projects/PROJECT-ID/ if you are not using default port.

You can also set up your PC as a kiosk with offline snapshot. Read more in the kiosk set-up tutorial.


Advertisement add-on has to be enabled for using advertisements in 3D Wayfinder. You can do it by ordering Advertisement add-on from your BILLING section.

Advertisement areas

Where the advertisements are displayed in 3D Wayfinder front-end depends on the template and where the containers for advertisements placed are.

Template and container selection is in top right on the advertisement page:




Advertisements can be different for different templates.

After selecting container, the advertisement preview area will be updated to the same ratio as the container is in template.


Managing frames

Banner and video advertisements are displayed in frames. Each frame has its own duration when it will be shown.

Frames can be added with + sign:




After creating first frame, you will see it appeared as numbered button:

Currently selected frame is highlighted.




Active frame can be deleted with a “Delete frame” button.


For each frame it is possible to set-up following things:


With frame layout it is possible to choose how many banners or videos are displayed at the moment.

You can select pre-defined simple layouts with layout buttons:

Or you can select number of rows and columns and then press the button with grid:

After changing frame layout you have to select advertisements again.

With frame keywords it is possible to filter displayed advertisements by kiosks or even by selected POI. This requires configured template, so please contact us, if you would like to create advertisement filtering.

The order of frames can be changed with arrow-buttons. The same order will be used in front-end to change the advertisements.

Adding banners and videos

After setting up frame it is possible to add banners and videos. For this you have to click on the table cell in frame layout, where you would like to add the advertisement.

It is possible to select already uploaded advertisements and also upload new image or video.

For video files the system will automatically take first frame as thumbnail.

Selected banners or videos will appear on the preview area:

To remove advertisement you have to select another advertisement instead or remove the whole frame.
