Getting to Your Car with Wayfinding Software

April 17, 2024

What if you lose your car in parking house? It might have happened to anybody and it is not a pleasant discovery. But with wayfinding software these kinds of situations can be avoided. Look up your car on wayfinding map or by your car number – no more hassles and another good reason to use wayfinding software in large buildings.

Losing your car in a parking house can be a frustrating experience and make you really anxious. It’s a scenario that many people can relate to, especially in large, multi-level parking structures where rows upon rows of vehicles can seem to blend together. Lately we have completed many wayfinder projects with features for looking up parked cars. There are different options for this and below we will give short overview.

Easiest solution is to use QR-codes near each parking space or area. By scanning the QR code user will initialize 3D Wayfinder with right place on map (where the car was parked). This is kept in mobile browser cache, so the Wayfinder maps don’t even have to be kept opened. Next time user opens Wayfinder application, all they have to do is press a shortcut pointing to parked car and directions can be automatically displayed to get to their car. QR-codes are easy to print and 3D Wayfinder provides option to get printable QR-codes from 3D Wayfinder administration panel.

More advanced way is to integrate wayfinding software with camera software that automatically detects all car numbers. In case visitor forgets where the car is parked, all they need to do is to open wayfinding application on touchscreen kiosk or mobile application and enter the car number.

3D Wayfinder can be easily integrated to any software that supports communication over web-based protocols. We have integrated 3D Wayfinder with Park Assist and by just looking up the car in parking house, visitors can also see the route to the right place.

How 3D Wayfinder Software Makes Hospitals Better

April 25, 2022

3D Wayfinder R&D AS has successfully completed as many as 200 projects a round the world. Below map gives you just small glimpse where you can find our work. Find out how hospital wayfinding software works.

3D Wayfinder R&D project map for wayfinding software projects globally.
3D Wayfinder global projects

Opportunity to work with clients globally has been beneficial to us all. Making our team stronger in 3D wayfinding software development and helping our clients to conquer their challenges. From the knowledge we have gathered we have now good insight what direction wayfinder software can grow in future.

Today, we see rising demand for solutions in healthcare sector. Larger city hospitals have grown to huge building complexes and provide rooms for hundreds of patients at a time. Some medical services are provided in one building and other services in different building. Patients who are staying short time and patients from rural areas are the first ones to discover these difficulties. Finding right cabinet from that maze can be long and challenging event.

How are we going to improve healthcare through wayfinding?

For hospitals we have taken already steps to improve our 3D wayfinder software. “3D Hospital Wayfinder and Management System” has been supported by Estonian-Norway joint-programme Norway Grants “Green ICT programme”. Project timeline is August 2020 till July 2023. Project’s focus is on developing web-based software service for healthcare operations, example hospitals. Like facility’s floor-plan visualization in 3D with universal API for collecting different real-time data and showing it in 3D floor-plans.

More details you can find HERE.

Hospital wayfinding software example

Our project in Poland is a great example how large hospitals can really be. As you can see below picture it is not an easy task to find right location there. The use of the stairs is not possible for a person in a wheelchair. To tackle this issue we have created opportunity to use multiple direction routes.

UCK hospital project in Poland with 3D Wayfinding R&D AS software.

We can’t forget that there are people who do not want to touch kiosks for health reasons or are located in different part of hospital, where there is no self-service kiosks. To tackle this issue we have created QR code based wayfinder solution. Scan QR code with your smartphone and use your device like kiosk. All the functions you get from large self-service kiosk you get in your smart device.

If you have more questions about the software we are happy to talk!

3D Wayfinder Helping Global Village Dubai Visitors to Find Their Way!

November 25, 2019

3D Wayfinder is proud to announce our new venture in helping Global Village Dubai to map their extensive theme park. Global Village is a massive theme park, where the diversity of human culture is showcased through cuisine, entertainment, music and architecture. The destination covers over 1,600,000 m2 and contains more than 200 outlets. During the 2018 season, the venue saw more than 7 million visitors! The question then becomes, how do you help guide people through this amazing maze?

3D Wayfinder helping Global Village Dubai visitors

Luckily we have the answer. In order to make navigating as simple as possible, for the very international crowd, our solution is based on Whatsapp, the most popular messenger app globally. The guest simply needs to type in where they want to go next and they will receive in return an URL, which will direct them to our Wayfinding resource. The device’s location will be located through GPS and the quickest route to the desired destination is generated. In addition, information about the attraction will be shown, e.g opening times, upcoming events or the menu. Convenient, right?

This is simply a 2D application of our capacities. We are providing our Wayfinding solution indoors as well, where relying on GPS isn’t an option. The basic concept is still based on triangulation, but instead of using satellites we utilize Bluetooth beacons. iBeacons and Eddystones are Bluetooth low energy devices that can broadcast their identifier to nearby portable electronic devices such as mobile phones or tablets. The other option is for people to insert their current location, e.g Starbucks, and their destination. This would make finding your way through an unfamiliar airport much less of a hassle. For instance, our Wayfinding solution for Changi airport in Singapore has without a doubt saved quite a few travellers from missing their flight. This is how 3D Wayfinder team helping Global Village Dubai visitors.

Integrating Face Recognition Technology With 3D Wayfinder

February 4, 2019

3D Wayfinder has been lately testing face recognition technology and what are the possibilities to integrate it with wayfinding software. This is a concept that connects biometric data to certain locations and makes wayfinding personal and unique.

When creating 3D Wayfinder, we have followed the principles that each customer would like to customize their application and integrate it with other applications. Also including Digital Signage software. 3D Wayfinders open modular architecture makes implementing new features easy and supports 3rd party software. Read more about integrations.

Wayfinding solution usually incluse information like bus time schedules, weather forecast or local news. But the possibilities are endless. We believe that integrating face recognition technology in the your wayfinding solution might be one of the things you want to consider when you know who’s gonna use Wayfinding and what for.

One of the best places to have that technology is at conferences or seminars. When client registres to the event online they should a have a option to upload the picture of their face , using webcam or phone, which will be later used on the wayfinding software and accredidation.

3D Wayfinder software with face recognition and biometric data.

When a person arrives to the event they have possibility to quickly check in using the same wayfinding totem. After check in it is possible to show the person their daily schedule and direct them to the right locations. That would save the guest time with not looking around or trying to figure out what was the next thing they needed to attend.

Using face recognition feature is not only for conferences or seminars. Contact us and we find right solutions together.

On Screen Keyboard Open Sourced

January 25, 2019

3D Wayfinder uses a in-house built JavaScript Keyboard for search input. A On Screen Keyboard (Keyboard later on) is used when there is no physical keyboard. For security and ease of use reasons we can’t use the Operating Systems builtin Keyboard.

3D Wayfinder in-house built JavaScript Keyboard for search input on screen.
Norwegian keyboard

Previously we used our own User Interface library to manage the state of our applications. But times have moved on and we are now using other more popular and powerful open source libraries like AngularJS and VueJS. We managed to use the old Keyboard also with these libraries. But it wasn’t very handy and meant that we had to import libraries that were not necessary for whole project (eg jQuery).

So we decided to get free of 3rd party libraries and make it easy to install via npm (nodejs package manager).

Our On Screen Keyboard is usable with any UI library that supports importing ES6 module formats. You can define Your own keyboard layouts and actions with a JSON layout file. So we can have any language that we ever need and also make also fully custom keyboards that only a number pad or have special buttons for custom actions. Also the Keyboard itself allows to switch the layout.

Turning the Map, Based on the Location of the Kiosk

January 2, 2019

Lately we developed a wayfinding software for a newly renovated mall in Tartu, Estonia. The solution there is simple with just 2D map with no possibility to rotate or drag the maps on the screen. Users get to choose their point of interest on the menu and a route pops up on the map leading the way. In case the location is on another floor, the software simply switches around to show the route on the correct floor.

As 3D Wayfinder is a web-based application, then each kiosk is using web browser with kiosk specific URL for the wayfinding project. The URL specifies kiosk ID, so that wayfinding software can identify which kiosk is being used and count usage statistics. Also URL parameter can specify the rotation of 2D map.

How it´s work?

To make it easier how it works we bring you an example of changing the URL:

1)Let’s say that you have a kiosk with ID number 1. Normally the URL for that kiosk would look something like this: http://clients.3dwayfinder.com/NameOfYourProject/?kiosk=1#!/

2) To rotate that you just need to add “&map2DRotation=90#!” after the kiosk ID number. Here’s an example: http://clients.3dwayfinder.com/NameOfYourProject/?kiosk=1&map2DRotation=90#!/

Here is an example of how the map looks on the kiosk inside the main entrance:

Screenshot 2019-01-02 at 13.55.53

The red “You Are Here” icons make the map universal. Below is an example of the same map being used next to another entrance, the picture is just simply turned toward the user of the kiosk and the “You Are Here” icon placed in front of that particular entrance. This additional solution makes the user experience a lot more straightforward.

Screenshot 2019-01-02 at 13.41.09

It is also possible to use different kind of arrows for the ”You are here” icon. This way it is simple for the users to understand which way they are standing and how the kiosk is placed in the mall.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year

December 19, 2013

joulD

The whole team of 3D Technologies R&D wishes You a merry christmas and a happy new year.

We will put additional effort into developing the software. All for better service and satisfaction for a user.

Just last year we could read that WebGL and HTML5 are not very well supported on mobile devices and have a long way to go. First tests showed that with a low polygon cont it was still lagging and mobile devices crashed often. Now things have changed and there has been a great leap forward – WebGL has started to mature and stabilize.

The mobile Internet speed is increasing every year and application downloading time is shortening. Telecommunications company EE announced recently that it has switched on the world’s fastest 4G network in East London which is capable of reaching speeds of up to 300Mbps. The fast mobile internet connection allows to download and use applications or online services faster and more conveniently.

Devices are becoming more and more powerful – each year more improved and advanced mobile processors roll out. For example MediaTek recently announced the MT6592, a mobile processor that includes eight cores with each capable of running at speeds up to 2GHz. It is the world’s first heterogeneous computing System on a Chip with scalable eight-core processing for superior multi-tasking. Fully functional WebGL on mobile devices is already here and we think that in few years or even less it will reach wider audiences. A prerequisite for this is of course technology’s lower prices and the increase of mobile internet speed. Here is the screenshot of the very first test of 3D Wayfinder WebGL on mobile device (Nexus 5):

If you want to be sure that your mobile device browser support WebGL then just click here. You can also check this summary table where is detailed data almost every desktop and mobile browser WebGL support.
