Until now all the materials in 3D Wayfinder have been replaced with each 3D model update. Now it is possible to keep the materials and their attributes’ values. This will save a lot of time, when creating a nice-looking 3D wayfinding application. See how to separating materials from geometry.

We have added a small feature to our 3D model converter. That enables to replace the 3D models without overwriting the materials. This means, that all the changes that were made in 3D Wayfinder for the purpose of tuning materials, are not lost when replacing 3D models. See it in user manual.

3D modelling software packages are different and the way 3D models are exported also varies. In most cases you need to change the color of the materials (diffuse and ambient color). After the creation of the model to get good looking 3D floor plans. We are now supporting specular shader, transparency etc. that might not come directly from the converted models. All these material attributes can be changed in 3D Wayfinder, but these values were replaced each time the geometry was updated. Now there is the option to keep the materials and their values, when replacing the 3D model.

At the same time we have added ambient attributes to each material when uploading the 3D model for the first time or when replacing the model. So there is no need to enter the “ambient” attribute anymore, just change the color.

We have implemented new type of nodes – portals. This makes it possible to guide visitors instantly from one point to another.

Portals in wayfinding software can be used for creating an instant path between a large number of floors or when floors are drawn on the same map as shown in the image below.

In the case where a building has a large number of floors the portal nodes become exceptionally useful they allow the path to “jump” instantly from one floor to another making the path visualization instant.
The portal nodes are useful in the case where there is a greater distance between locations where you don’t need to show the way. For example in the case when using a train or a tunnel in between locations.

The nodes operate the same way as in the popular videogame Portal. The main idea is that you can create two gateways in between which the path can move freely either way.

Currently the portal nodes only operate on 2D maps, but at the moment we are working on developing portal nodes for 3D maps. They will be available soon to make your wayfinding solutions even more flexible.

It has been very exiting days since we launched 3DWayfinder’s SDK kit. 3D Wayfinder for Developers product was in Beta testing and we have made significant progress since then. Here are our latest improvements:
– bug fixing
– new map editor layout
– new snapshot system to use maps offline
– we have revealed the Plans & Pricing section.

Mobile devices are getting more and more powerful and it will not take long when we can display 3D floor plans on mobile browsers smoothly. We just made a test run on a Nexus 5 and the result seems promising.

For example users can create Wayfinding, Smart House and Architecture visualization solutions. Using 3D Wayfinder floor plan application will save development time and gives users out of the box floor plan. This service enables developers to focus on these needs and not to waste time on additional development.

3D Wayfinder takes advantage of the possibilities offered by HTML5 and WebGL, that work on all modern web browsers. Taavi Juursalu, the company’s CTO says: „Our JavaScript API enables developers to intersect and send map specific events, so customizing the map is as easy as the Google Maps API. “

The platform is currently in beta version and therefore free of charge. Our service enables any developer to start creating applications without the need for specific skills in 3D field“.
